March Word & Worship Wednesday Revival 2011, pt. 1
Pastor E. Dewey Smith Brings the Word to Little Rock
The book of John begins with “In the beginning was the Word; the Word was with God, and the Word was God. “ On Wednesday, March 02, 2011, Rev. E. Dewey Smith came in from Georgia and delivered a word sent from The Word.
Smith preached from a very familiar text found in John 11:5-6. After reading the text, he focused on the word “oddly” which is used in the text from the Message Bible translation. With that said, he titled the message “When God Seems Odd”.
He walked us into the message by talking about the dichotomy of God: how on one side God is incomprehensible yet God is knowable(Charles Ryrie) and expounded on the fact that questioning God is not a sin: we can question the nature of God; we just cannot question the existence of God.
He walked us through the message by taking us through the book of John to showcase Jesus’ miracles and His compassionate acts for others such as turning the water into wine at a wedding, healing the blind man, feeding the 5000, and saving the woman at the well. He then came to the point of where Jesus is seemingly ignoring the main characters in the text: those he loved and had a relationship with--Mary, Martha and Lazarus. Again, he expounded on how ODD this seemed. The Jesus in chapter 11 is not the Jesus from the previous chapters in John.

The sermon was designed to show us the following points:
The longer the wait, the greater the blessing.
Some things are secret only to God.
Man’s extremity is God’s opportunity.
Divine sovereignty requires human responsibility—God spoke the Word; man moved the stone.
Our reactions test the authenticity of our testimonies.
The stones in our lives stand between our history and our destiny.
God will allow some odd things in our lives.
