Foundational Scripture - Eph. 4:12
“For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ …”
Purpose
The purpose of Roddy E. Collins School of Ministry is to foster a renewed commitment of individual believers to the cause of Christ. This school of ministry will provide each committed believer with the necessary tools to be a productive and victorious soldier in the battle for Christ.
Mission
Our mission is to demonstrate the love of Christ to all by providing educational and training opportunities. These opportunities will aid in developing and sharpening of skills for all to soldier in God’s Kingdom by applying biblical principles in their Christian living.
Who is Roddy E. Collins?
At a very early age, under the pastorate of Rev. V.W. Nelson, a young man by the name of Roddy E. Collins joined St. Mark Baptist Church. Throughout his tenure at St. Mark, he faithfully served on the Evangelist Committee, Transportation Ministry, as a Male Chorus member, Angelic Choir Chaplain, Deacon, and as Sunday School Superintendent and Teacher. Roddy E. Collins faithfulness to God, his family, church and pastoral leadership, caused Pastor Maurice Watson to name the “Wednesday Night Bible Study” after Mr. Collins. In 1999, an additional discipleship ministry was introduced to “Wednesday Night Bible Study.” This comprehensive study of various books of the bible became known as the Roddy E. Collins School of Ministry.
Under the leadership of the Education Council, the Roddy E. Collins School of Ministry grew from Wednesday night classes to a two-year bible curriculum in 2002. Continuing in its growth, third year elective classes were added in 2004. Recognizing the importance of this invaluable ministry, the Roddy E. Collins School of Ministry opened its doors to other church communities in 2005.
Roddy E. Collins was no ordinary member; his faithfulness to God, his family, church and pastoral direction has aided this School of Ministry to become a vital part of the Discipleship Ministry at St. Mark Baptist Church.
